It's International Sauvignon Blanc Day: Friday 6th May

So why not grab a bottle of your favourite Marlborough Sauvignon, and crack it open (bound to be under screwcap thankfully) alongside one (or two) examples from other parts of the world?

Luckily, we've found two wines that fit the bill, both of which are under £6, so you can splash out a few quid more on a really great Kiwi example can't you?

First up is this little number at the Co-Op

great stuff from Duncan Savage, and at a price that's not budged in 5 years

It picked up a fair bit of critical praises a few years back, but seems to have dropped off the radar for the British press since. Jamie Goode gave it a big thumbs up back in 2011, when he quoted it as being £7.99 down to £5.99 at the Co-Op; so nice to know that not everything's gone up in price.

Over at Morrisons there's the Fish Hoek Sauvignon Blanc, with it's nifty embossed bottle, from Accolade Wines (this one's not bulk shipped and bottled in the UK apparently).

might be 2014, but still fresh, plenty of tropical Savvy characters, perfect in this current weather we're having in the UK

Even easier on the wallet, this one's £5 (down from £7.50) at the moment. Be rude not to wouldn't it really?

And if you really want to go Sauvignon crazy this Friday, think about nabbing a good Loire example (Sancerre, Touraine Sauvignon...) to create your own little cross-tasting across the three countries and regions that do the variety proud.

Of course, if you don't like white wines, or Sauvignon Blanc in particular, then reach for a Cabernet Sauvignon. Sit back and knowledgeably proclaim you're celebrating Sauvignon Blanc Day by drinking its progeny (Sauvignon Blanc X Cabernet Franc = Cabernet Sauvignon).
